Project re-development Update

In order to secure the long-term sustainable future of the business, and expand its services and impact, the company is seeking funds to purchase the Cletwr Services and erect a new, attractive, sustainable building.

The business will operate on behalf of the local community and will provide a major social and economic stimulus to the area. We will extend the scope of the services offered to provide community space for events and to showcase local artists and producers, as well as promoting the area’s wonderful natural and cultural heritage. We will provide many learning opportunities such as Welsh classes, placements to help people back into work, and help young people gain vocational skills. With a number of partners, such as Citizens Advice, The West Wales Credit Union we will work to tackle the problems of rural poverty that affect many in the area. We will support a number of high-quality, year-round jobs in a rural area which desperately needs them.

Our consultations have established significant support for the project. A large majority of local people, passers-by and tourists are already supporting the current business. Most importantly, as well as restoring vital services, it is viewed as a vital community hub and meeting place. Consultation has also confirmed support for an expansion of existing services and the development of new ones.

The project received planning permission in June 2014. In February 2015 we were awarded a grant of £497,000 by the Big Lottery Fund, which will allow us to purchase the site and pay for part of the re-development. We have also received an award of £25,000 from Cyngor Ceredigion and a further £25,000 from the Trusthouse Charitable Foundation towards the capital costs. (Update August 2016) We have also received £172,000 from The Welsh Government Community Facilities Programme, and are finalising details of an £88,000 grant from the EU Rural Communities Development Fund. Together with some smaller donations, this gives us all we need to start work on the new building.

Thanks to the Lottery funding we purchased the site in March 2016, and we plan for work to commence on the new building in late 2016.
